about

We are a new band from Sacramento, Ca. We are American High.

This is our first record. We wrote it for the simple love of rock and roll. We did not include our names or pics. We don't crave attention personally. We don't care about making money from our music. We don't care about shiny watches. Or convertible sports cars. We hope our pure joy for music comes across.

The songs orbit themes of love lost or never found, self doubt, and lost hope. The costs of war, of denying the obvious truth that each of us was born with inherent liberties, of some thinking that maybe they are smarter, better, worth more. Of encouraging our sisters and brothers to believe in themselves and their inherent worth.

We were interested in exploring the duality of human existence. Those of us living behind iron bared windows, with crumbling foundations and those living safely in the penthouse, cool breezes blowing past tasteful art. We wanted to point out the equality of each person's worth. We hope to humbly point out that sometimes there are Bones in the attic and flowers in the basement. Happy songs with dark themes.

We deeply respect those song writers who are able to create songs with multiple layers. Each person gets to decide what each song means to them. Happy sing-alongs? Or commentary? Metaphor? We hope for you to decide.

We enjoy breaking tradition with respect to rhythm, count, harmony, the use of left/right, the use of eclectic instruments. We reject music doctrine regarding keys and chords. Changes and parts. Of song structure.

Most of all we wanted to scream from the highest rooftop: it's about peace, freedom and liberty.

Especially freedoms that the majority, even we ourselves, disagree with. We don't accept that notion of the victimless crime. Without a victim, there is no crime. We don't accept the concept of boarders. You can't see them from space. It's a lie that some are worth more than others. That the smarter or richer should control the rest.

We hope our songs will make each of us question our beliefs. Especially those most closely held beliefs: that our side is always right.
